Nalani Griffin Dunn, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a private counseling practice in San Francisco, CA.  A LCSW can provide counseling to individuals, couples, children and families but does not prescribe medication. Nalani is a native Californian, though lived in Hawaii for the last half of her childhood and lived in Manhattan as well as a young adult.  She has been a resident of San Francisco for 30+ years. She obtained a B.A. in Clinical Psychology at San Francisco State University and a Master’s in Social Work at U.C. Berkeley. 

Nalani has dedicated her counseling career of 30+ years to working with individuals, families and caregivers who are coping with life limiting and life threatening illness such as ALS, cancer, AIDS and Alzheimer’s disease (and other cognitive impairments.) She can help with emotional support, practical interventions and long term planning. 

Additionally, she has devoted her career to supporting people who are struggling with depression and anxiety due to life long struggles or because of life transitions involving work, school, relationships, getting older, empty nest challenges etc. 

Nalani works with couples and families of all kinds: LGBT, siblings, parents and adult children, friends and co-workers who are grappling with relationship difficulties.  She passionately believes that counseling can help people learn the skills to communicate their wishes, dreams and to manage the natural conflict that occurs in relationships. 

She has had in-debth training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, grief work, and much experience in blending these techniques and interventions in a way that best suits  your needs.
